Finding My Pace: What Melvin Taught Me
Horses have always been a part of who I am—but Melvin is a part of my story in a way no other horse has ever been. He’s an off-the-track Thoroughbred I bought when he was 6 years old, and over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of training him into the horse he is today. Now 13, he’s been my partner through seasons of growth, discipline, and some incredible achievements in the show world.
I’ve owned and ridden many horses over the years—each one special in their own way—but none of them compare to Melvin. There’s just something about him… because he’s simply Melvin.
For a long time, our days were structured around competition. Early mornings, long training sessions, constant goals, and a deep level of commitment. And while I’m so grateful for everything we accomplished together, life has shifted a bit. I made the decision to step away from that pace—not because I had to, but because I wanted something different for both of us.
Now, our rides look quieter. Slower. More intentional. It’s no longer about what we’re working toward next, but about how we feel in the moment. It’s about trust, connection, and finding peace in the process rather than pressure in the outcome.
And that mindset hasn’t stayed in the barn—it’s followed me into my career in real estate.
The same patience it takes to train a horse, the consistency required to build trust, and the attention to detail needed to truly understand them—those are the exact qualities I bring to my clients every day. Real estate, much like riding, isn’t about rushing to the finish line. It’s about knowing when to move forward, when to pause, and how to guide the process in a way that feels right for each individual situation.
Melvin taught me that success isn’t always about the biggest wins—it’s about the relationship you build along the way. And whether I’m in the saddle or helping someone find their next home, that’s something I carry with me every single day.
